Distance is about nostalgia. The setting is the University of Kansas campus, where I completed my undergraduate degree in painting. The figure is my childhood friend, holding a staff that becomes the sunset. Sunsets tend to prompt the emotions associated with returning to a place and time inacessible. Like moths are drawn to a flame, I am drawn to the past. My friend is there, holding it for me.
